I know it’s only a very inelegant ocean outflow pipe… but I have this romantic notion of this being the bow of some collosal wavebreaker, an ocean faring battleship heading out to sea.

Wavebreaker

Steaming Out to Sea

Gerry and I were back once more to check out the ebb and flow of Kelly’s falls. It had been almost two years since we were last visiting the waters here.

It had been raining for a few days so we were somewhat hopeful for a decent flow of water. Alas the water whilst decent wasn’t the raging torrent we were hoping for :).

We’d both lugged our multi row pano kits down the arduous descent so be damned if we weren’t going to make use of them :). Here is a shot of Gerry crafting a pano from the other side of the falls whilst I do one from this side.

Flow Inspection

I also tried to put together some vertical panos but I don’t think any of the source frames merit the effort of stitching them unfortunately.

I did manage to put together a couple selfies of course. This last one with some sweet patches of warm morning light poking through the clouds. Apparently white socks are optional tho :).

The Light Flow

And just like that it was time for us to be leaving Japan. We took the bullet train from Hiroshima back to Tokyo and headed to my uncles place for our last night in Japan.

Sliding Visions

From the fast moving train the cities and countryside are constantly sliding past, dissappearing from view as the miles are eaten up.

Farewell Japan – the visions may be sliding from view but the memories will forever stay fond.

Sometimes you just get lucky and get this fantastic beams of light. We were expecting a very overcast and rainy morning this day. The forecast was for rain and lots of cloud. We’d actually planned on shooting waterfalls this morning (once it was daylight) and this session at Coalcliff beach was just meant to be a temporary filler before the main event.

Beam Me Up

Three takes on the same composition. Each only slightly different but it shows the difference timing makes to a scene like this. This first shows the impact of taking the shot just after the main surge of water cascades across the top of the rocks and fills the view with flowing water.

Gods Light

Next we’ve timed for just after the initial rush and we’re just able to see through the water to the rocks and seaweed below just at my feet.

Beams

Finally the surge has almost completed and we’re seeing the last of the water drain away. The rocks are exposed again and the rocks and seaweed below are clearly visible.

Each has their own merits and for me all would look great on the wall. Personally my favourite is the first very closely followed by the second. Which is yours?

A grey old sunrise with Gerry at Collaroy beach. We’d arrived well before sunrise and it was very dark – possibly something to do with the 100% cloud cover :(.

Pipe Line

We’d never shot here before and this was really just the filler before heading off to some nearby waterfalls. They were the main event (or so we hoped). We were here just in case the weather predictions were wrong and it was in fact an epic sunrise. Hmmmm… it wasn’t :(.

Outward Bound
