Burano 360…
by Rodney Campbell on Mar.04, 2018, under Life, Photography
Picturesque Burano is known for its brightly coloured fishermen’s houses.
The typical Burano’s house is mainly squared-shaped and are divided into two or three floors. At the low ground there is the kitchen, the breakfast nook and the toilet. On the upper floors are the bedrooms.
The different colours of the houses, which today represent the island’s main feature. Families used to paint their homes in bright colours to designate where their family’s quarters ended and a neighbour’s began. An ancient legend also narrates that fishermen painted their houses to make their homes more visible from the sea. The tradition has stuck.

The 360° panorama above is comprised of sixteen (16) overlapping vertical frames (and if you look carefully you can see my girls in there – a closer up single frame is further down below :)).
A little magic at the blog end and you can view the end result as an interactive 360˚ photo. Using your mouse or keyboard (arrow keys) you can control your view and pan around the scene (and even zoom in and out).
Clicking the square box icon towards the top left corner also allows you to run it full screen.

Heading to Burano…

After visiting Murano you can move on heading to Burano Island.
From the stop called Murano Faro, take the waterbus number 12 and you will arrive in Burano in approximately 25 mins (they leave every 20 min @ 19/39/59 past the hour).

Venice
A tip we were given was to get off at the stop just before called Mazzorbo and walk the short distance to Burano through an ancient church ground and community garden with an abandoned bell tower then over a wooden bridge with a great view over the lagoon (and back to Venice) and into Burano.
Visiting Murano…

I had planned us a day tour of two of the lagoon islands of Venice – we’d be visiting Murano and then Burano.
The most famous islands near Venice are Murano (glass factories) and Burano (lace making & colourful houses). Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges in the Venetian Lagoon. It lies about 1.5 kilometres north of Venice and measures about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) across.
Murano
To get there you can catch the vaporetto up the Grand Canal back up past the Train Station (Ferrovia) to the next stop after that called Piazzale Roma. From there you get onto the Line 3 express from Dock C straight to Murano Colonna stop (the journey takes approximately 20mins and a vaporetto leaves every 30 min @ 20 and 50 mins past the hour). This is a much more pleasant journey from Piazzale Roma and you should get a seat as it is the starting point for this express service.

Chupa Chups
The island of Murano is renowned for its long tradition of glass-making. So of course we visited a glass furnace whilst we were there and the girls got to see some glass blowing in action.
