The Breakaways
by Rodney Campbell on Aug.06, 2019, under Life, Photography
The Breakaways are one of South Australia’s Outback gems. They’re a striking rocky landscape of flat-topped mesas
The Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park is a protected area in northern South Australia, just off the Stuart Highway 33 km north of Coober Pedy

Sunset is the best time to come here and watch as it’s golden light lights up the colours of the sandstone

On the way we stopped to view the mine mounds (tailings) from above – so so many… As can be seen in the 180˚ panorama below

Crossed Lines

Out here in the vast nothingness… criss crossed lines…
Generally the rail line runs dead straight parallel with the road, so you’re looking out one side of the car and there’s the rail line a hundred metres away. However every now and then – I don’t know why – the road decides to cross onto the other side and then parallel again
The land is dead flat and then there’s this small manmade hill where the road rises up and over the rail bridge. We stopped at one of these spots so I could do a little drone photography… with what is possibly the only subject of note around here 🙂

A 360˚ spherical panorama taken high up in the sky with the Mavic 2 Pro drone as an interactive 360˚ photo. A view as we were leaving the national park
Using your mouse or keyboard (arrow keys) you can control your view and pan around the scene (and even zoom in and out). Clicking the square box icon towards the top left corner also allows you to run it full screen

One last look at the Flinders Ranges as we were leaving. These shot with the drone a little after we’d left the national park
