Karijini ECO Retreat

We were leaving Dales Campground today to head around to the western end of Karijini National Park and the Karijini ECO Retreat
The Anthill

Once settled in there I went for a walk to nearby Joffre Gorge which is right within the ECO Retreat area
Once at the bottom I headed left to shoot up the gorge where you can see these fabulous weathered layered gorge walls. Like thousands upon thousands of thin layers of coloured rock

In the other direction the brighter red cracked rocks fill the gorge area heading towards the waterfall

When I was down the bottom photographing I met this nice young German couple
We got to talking and we had a shared keen interest in photographing the Joffre gorge under the milky way
Checking PhotoPills we worked out that tonight was going to be pretty ideal to have the vertical expanse of the milky way lined up with the gorge itself
We could setup in the bottom of the gorge near Joffre falls and look up at the sky with the tall 100m high gorge walls on either side of us. For a short while the milky way would line up with the narrow crack of the gorge. We had a short window of opportunity straight after astronomical twilight (an hour to 90 minutes after sunset) to shoot
So we made a plan to meet back here around 6:30PM (after sunset and in the dark :)) to shoot the milky way from just after 7PM
