Slow Flakes
by Rodney Campbell on Aug.08, 2020, under Photography
A final shot taken at the afternoon session of daytime Long Exposures with the Focus Photographers group and NiSi Filters at Turimetta on Sydney’s Northern Beaches
Slow Flakes
This one taken with the Nikon Z 24-200mm lens along with a NiSi 10-Stop IR ND 100mm square filter stacked with a HiTech 4-Stop grad ND (to hold down the sky)
Below is a 100% crop from towards the bottom left corner of frame. I’m unsure if you could call this a typical example or not (it is a 2 minute exposure so things like camera movement can come into play; even diffraction limiting (@ f/13) and depth of field and selection of point of focus plays it’s hand here as the camera is physically pretty close to the closest foreground (which is at the extreme bottom of the frame))
100% Crop
Note: These photographs (especially the wider shots) look much better when larger. To see larger versions in an inline overlay slideshow gallery viewer click any of the images.
My own gut feeling is that the lens is weakest along the extreme edges (top and bottom in a vertical composition like this) at the widest end of the focal range (i.e. near 24mm). From 35mm and up and all the way to 200mm it’s pretty much tack sharp across the frame
Only pixel peepers are likely to notice. However for really critical landscape work I’d use the 14-30mm for that focal range and then the 24-200 for above 30mm

A little monochrome conversion of a shot taken at the afternoon session of daytime Long Exposures with the Focus Photographers group and NiSi Filters at Turimetta on Sydney’s Northern Beaches
Plumbing the Depths
This one taken at a longer focal length (63mm) with the Nikon Z 24-200mm lens along with a NiSi 10-Stop IR ND 100mm square filter

Dreams of Green
I wanted to test out my new Nikon Z 24-200mm lens for some typical seascape work with attached 100mm filter holder and filters. As well as try out some of the NiSi 100mm filters
Here I’m trying out the NiSi 15-Stop square IR ND filter (along with my CPL in my NiSi V6 Holder)
Actually 15 stops was a bit strong given the available light and I had to bump the ISO to 200 (from the camera’s native 64) so I didn’t have to deal with exposure times in the tens of minutes!
