The Loader
A little over a month ago I’d attempted to get Gerry to join me for a last minute sunset shoot
Unfortunately he wasn’t able to make it so I made a quick trip down to the Coal Loader at Balls Head Reserve. There’s this decrepit old jetty there that basically faces towards sunset (at this time of year)
I was hoping for some better cloud colour; alas sunset was a bit meh
I only took 9 shots for the whole session. And the number was only that high because I shot some with and without a grad and a 6 stop ND – across two different compositions
This was the only frame remotely worth salvaging so here we go… Taken with the Kase Filters CPL, 0.9 Reverse Grad and ND64
Last Light

Last Light
A nice long exposure to end the day at last light. Long Jetty post sunset we have almost enough movement in the clouds to get the streaks going. Five minutes was probably not enough – likely needed 10 or more
Taken with the Kase six (6) stop ND64 stacked with their 3 stop (0.9) reverse grad and the CPL

Centrepoint Moon

Centrepoint Moon
So this is the shot the other group I’m met had planned. We had to rush over here from Darling Island to the roof of an “undisclosed parking lot” in the city in time to line up this shot
We’d arrived and were setup to shoot with less than ten minutes to spare 🙂
10:32PM and the moon has aligned with the tower spire and it’s in the bag. Ended up being my favourite shot of the night. Many thanks to Vincent from the other group who planned and found this location
Bleeding Crown!

Bleeding Crown!
I was expecting to arrive at this location to massive crowds and zero parking… Only to find parking abundantly available right next to where I wanted to shoot and almost no-one around
I did meet up with one other group of photographers who had the exact same photo plan in mind. To shoot the top of the crown tower with the blood moon passing right behind the top. 9:55PM and the moon is passing behind as planned
To get this shot you have to shoot from a specific location on the ground. We were both surprised (only) one other person had planned the exact same shot 🙂
After we had this one in the can, I joined their group for another shot they had planned (in the city)
