NIKON Z6_3 + NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S @ 14 mm, 25 sec at f/8, ISO 100

AOAM RGB Critter BT (Solid Colour:Blue Preset) + Modular Saber 24″/61cm + Butterfly Modular Saber 8″/20cm + Honeycomb Modular Saber 8″/20cm + Orb Accessory

This image was the first test precursor to the one Gerry posted earlier. I actually like how the sparkler ball zooms out of the image as it’s thrown

For the disc of light behind Gerry I’ve attached a suite of tools to the RGB Critter to give it enough length to create a decent sized disc. Then I’m just rotating the length of the stick behind him (the torch itself is approx in the middle of his back)

AOAM RGB Critter 2.0 + Modular Saber 8″/20cm (Solid Blue Preset)

For this image Gerry and I used both my older original RGB Critter (the non bluetooth/app enabled torch) plus the new one. I did the pretty basic attempt at a light plant with frankly too many sabers attached :), whilst Gerry used the short saber on a solid blue preset for the ground work

Alas controlling the brightness (and pretty much choosing the preset to use) is frankly a nightmare with the original critter (the convoluted button press sequence and timing required is not pleasant to use – we couldn’t even successfully get into the brightness setting so this is the default 100% for the blue on the ground which is alas too bright and we knew it). The new RGB Critter BT however with it’s app control is a godsend 🙂 and actually makes the tooling user friendly, quick and usable in the field 🙂

NIKON Z6_3 + NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S @ 14 mm, 85 sec at f/8, ISO 100

AOAM RGB Critter BT (Strobe:Amethyst-Monochromatic Preset) + Modular Saber 24″/61cm + Fiber Optic Duster (White)

An outing with Gerry to test some new light painting equipment I gifted myself for Christmas 🙂

I’d ordered myself some new light painting gear from Ants on a Melon – including their new RGB Critter BT (a very cool RGB flashlight) along with a heap of attachments (including 4 different sabers, 4 light blades, two fiber optic dusters, an orb accessory, acrylic write, illuminator and a few other accessories)

After many attempts during the evening we have discovered that there is some real technique to using the tools – which we definitely havn’t discovered or perfected yet 🙂

More to come …
