Wine Country
Once we’d walked to the top of the village of Pyrgos, the views all around were excellent. In the first image you can see the vineyards in the foreground and on the right side hugging the cliffs you can see the villages of Fira, Firostefani (where we were staying) and Imerovigli with Skaros rock sticking out just to the left of that. The village on the finger of land further in the distance is Oia

We drove inland to the historic little village of Pyrgos to wander around and have lunch. The place that my prior research had come up with as recommended was a place called Cava Alta. The entrance and dark interior at street level didn’t look all that promising, but they had an upstairs area on the roof with shade sails which was very comfortable with excellent views. The food was also excellent so lunch was a win. These images were taken from my seat at lunch so easy peasy 🙂

Santorini Heart View

Santorini Heart View
Leaving the monastery we headed to one of the traditional wineries (Hatzidakis) to do a tour and tasting. Well we both did the tour but only Louise did the tasting :). It was very interesting and we learnt quite a bit (which wasn’t hard since we basically knew very little :)). Louise even bought a bottle to bring home
After the winery we headed to “The Heart of Santorini” – a heart-shaped hole in a rock, through which you can see the Aegean Sea, the sky, and the volcano
The view from where you park is pretty amazing (as shown in my panorama) tho you may feel a little exposed since like with most things on the Greek islands there’s no barriers, warning signs or anything – just a sheer dropoff literally where you park and walk

Moni Profiti Ilia
We went for a drive to visit some other parts of Santorini island
First was a crazy drive up the narrow switchback road that leads to the Profitis Ilias Monastery atop the highest mountain on Santorini. The view from up here is vast but the drive up to here was a little hair raising 🙂
